Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, the 40 days before Easter. People spent the night before (Mardi Gras) whooping it up with much food, drink and merriment. Now, the dust has settled and we turn to 40 days of prayer/mediation, reflection and a chance to turn inward to come clean with ourselves in the form of giving up a desired object. Going to 12pm Mass with my mother left me with feelings of solace and a quiet yet firm determination. Although I will not give up anything during this Lenten season, I shall instead use the time to “cleanse” not just myself but everything around me that is cluttered with the unnecessary. May your cup overflow with tea, peace, wisdom and hopefully an understanding of what it means to be you.
